Music - is something that is not affected by our age.
When I was a kid I had visited a school where children learn to play guitar.
One guy played so nicely and my mother asked:
- For how long do you play?
- For seven years, - he replied.
I was shocked. Seven years was something infinite for me. And I decided not to attend that school.
I came back to guitar several years later, and at the moment I still play it - for many years since then... more then seven :) But I don't count time any more, because I play from my desire to play, not from my desire to become a good player. Hope you understand me.

So it's never late to begin. Better late then never.
Good luck to you, guys.

I turned 50 last November and felt like a fossil on this site. I've been playing since I was 11 but took 15 years off to raise kids and recover from some medical problems. It is really nice to know I'm not alone on here! I'm retired so I have plenty of time to play and I'm lovin it. I play a Fender Strat and have a Peavey Windsor half stack and it is a good amp for what I play, but I want to get a Marshall for the tone. I played a Fender Twin for 20 yrs so I figured I'd try something different. That's what makes this so much fun, always something new. BTW, I have been practicing triads and Chris Schlegel does a great job teaching them, Thanks Chris!

Hey K2BT
You're never too old to learn, and it seems as though you're really enjoying it. The other guitar player in our band is 50, and recently started learning hybrid picking. He's a great player anyway, he just wanted to learn some new tricks. There's just a hint of a grin on his face, when he plays double stops now. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, and keep on picking.

Took some lessons at twelve, had a few guitars here and there, got a family, sold guitar, daughter grew up, at 55 wife and daughter sprung for a gift and have been struggling to learn since. Not very good but 59 and lovin' it. Keep it up.

Hi Schmidtrock,

Tell us more! How is it going, picking up the guitar again after a hiatus? Do you find you remember more, or less, than you thought you would?

I've found I mostly remember what I knew before. That said, I never was really accomplished back when. My main instrument was the piano, and I never really applied myself too diligently to the guitar. That attitude has changed now with the time passed. Not to mention I've got a bad case of GAS. :p
