first thing to do is listen to other kinds of music, and trying to see what those other guys are playing.

I have learnt Jazz almost unconsciously, because I was a rock guitarist, and I started listening to a lot of jazz, and now, it has come up in my playing.

You should start learning the major scale too, just look in the tricks section to see what it has to offer... You will have another color added to your style.
