i recently bought an acustic guitar an been practicing for a while.I can see that i will be buying an electric soon.I went to the music store an they wanted to sell me every guitar there.I am clueless about guitars an why one guitar cost 5,000 dollars and the next one is 200.00 an they seem to sound the same.I dont want a 5,000.00 dollar guitar BUT i dont want the 100.00 guitar either.I will say that i would rather pay 5000.00 dollars for a 5000.00 guitar rather than 200.00 for a fifty dollar guitar. In other words i want what i pay for.I am just playing for fun and dont intend to play pro, just for fun but if i get to were i can play then watch out world here i come.for now id just be happy finding the right guitar.Any ideas on which guitar i should buy. slash

Hey Clint,
Check out the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster & Stratocaster. You can get these for $299 at all the big internet music sales places. I have guitars that cost nearly 10 times as much that surley aren't even twice as good. The Classic Vibe series is the best bang for the buck I have found. I bought the Classic vibe Telecaster 2 months ago and the honeymoon continues on.

Clint ....before you go buying a guitar over the internet go to a guitar store in your area....make sure its the one you REALLY want
maybe you'll find that you dont like the feel sound or whatever
its like buying a pair of shoes over the internet ..looks great but they dont fit ... then your stuck with it know what i mean?

if you find one in the store and you like it and can find the EXACT same on the internet for less money ..then congrats you'll be that much happier

I went to 2 different stores yesterday and the first thing i did was act like i was broke(which im not)an the salesman acted like the 300.00 dollar guitar was the best in the store. The second store i went to i acted like i had plenty of money(which i dont)and he acted like nothing less than a12-15 hundred dollar guitar would do.Since i have never had a nice guitar im just trying to figure out what nice is.Thanks for the advice though.it makes alot of cents,

I think a key question in what you want to by is what you listen too and want to play? That can often narrow the type of guitar you are looking for and I think gives a better sense of budget and even recommendations here.

So, what will you most likely play on this? (Metal, Blues, Jazz etc) and who do you like in music?

I'd recommend a Fender Squire Stratocaster - tried and tested - easy to repair
if you always take the lazy route

I maybe should have asked...budget?

Like the last post, if it's full on budget, a Squire by Fender is not a bad way to go. If the budget has a little wiggle room, this would be a good choice to straddle your tasts and still keep a reasonable price:
