Erm, I would advise to not use your thumb to fret the strings...

Try this, hope it helps.

I'm not sure if you've seen this lesson:

http://guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=12427

It shows a couple of different ways to play it. The first way eliminates the bass 'root' note, however if you're playing in a band with other instruments, the bass guitar will take care of that note for you.
Basically it's just a matter of avoiding the fifth and sixth strings.

Kewl... glad to hear it helped.

I'm posting a new series of lessons on just minor chords.
(it's meant for beginners on how to learn to play them but it's actually including right hand rhythm techniques as well as Jam and MP3 tracks to play along with.

I haven't linked them into a tutorial yet but your can find the first of them here:

Am Chords

Bm Chords
http://guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=12656

Cm Chords
http://guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=12657

Dm Chords
http://guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=12658

I've just got to finish off the Em, Fm and Gm and I'll link them up as a tutorial.

Each lesson has an MP3 file and looped Jam track to practice the chords to.
(or leads if you're so inclined)
