Biggest question: What's the uppermost budget you would spend?

In my opinion....its hard to buy an acoustic online when you dont know how it feels and sounds. I have a friend who bought 2 very expensive acoustics online but it was all guarenteed and he could send them back....

I have gone to stores where I go from guitar to guitar and they all sound so different....so the sound quality is important for me...

if you just want a guitar...to start... and have something
like they said up there in the thread...go with what you have to spend
and if you can do some research and see what is suggested in your price ran.....try a google search
"recommended acousitc guitars between 200-300" for example...
let us know what you get...good luck

Go to a guitarcenter (if there's one near you) and try them out til you find one you like. Then you can go online and try to find that model..

I guess my question is .... why do you want to buy your first guitar online?

Like are you out in the sticks somewhere or chained up in a basement somewhere?

Get the hell out of the house and go to some music stores and find a guitar that feels and sounds good. Sit in the store and play around with it and make sure it's what you want and don't let the salesperson sway you.

I've never bought a guitar I didn't play first, and with an acoustic you want to check the intonation. You can set it yourself on an electric guitar, but not on an acoustic. Even if the price is a factor, you still want a cheap one that plays right.

Tune the guitar, and play the open string, and then go down to the 12th fret. Play the harmonic in the 12th fret, do this by lightly touching the string in the 12th fret, as you pick the string. This note will be a higher pitch than the open string. Next play the note in the 12th fret, this time pressing on the string. This note should sound the same as the harmonic, if it doesn't the intonation is not set right. Then check the other strings the same way, that way you can be sure the guitar will tune, and play better.

The way it sounds, and the way it feels are important to. After all this is your guitar, it should be worth what you pay for it. I'm leary of buying online, because you can't find out any of this stuff until you get it in your hands. If you have to get it online, we all hope you get a great one. If you can get to a music store, or pawn shop you would probably be more satisfied with it.
