Line 6 half stack

Hey whats up my guitarist just got a new line 6 half stack for xmas, now he isent to good at setting amps and likes to crank the distortion and sounds like well **** he does not quite understand overdrive. So anyone whos got any tips or setting info on this to help me help him itd be great the sound Im looking for is a good crunchy yet clean sounding metal comparisons would be like bless the fall, escape the fate, or a7x Thanks
