Anyway thanks in advance.
Hello! another newbie.
Hello everyone.I tell all my friends that I have been playing the guitar for 10 years now but the the reality is that my guitar spends more time collecting dust than being used.I do try to practice but just end up getting frustraited and put the guitar down so I thought Id have a look in here and see if i can improve.I have had no lessons because I thought I could teach myself so go easy on me lol.
Anyway thanks in advance.

heh... don't sweat it.
I think we've all felt like that at some point. I know I've always hated to practice and probably just learned because I was bored and there was nothing else to do so I kept going back to it.
One thing you might try doing if you don't have to worry about damage to your guitar from kids or whatever, is leave the guitar out in a prominent place so you have to pass it every day. I know some guys wipe their guitars down when they're finished and put it back in the case and lovingly care for it...which is fine if you have the willpower to go through the trouble of getting it out again the next time you play.
Me..I'd rather let my guitar get all scratched up and leave it in the middle of the room on a stand with my equipment on 24/7 so anytime the urge hits, I just reach over and it's ready to go.
Anyways.. give the free lessons a try here on the site.
There's 24 of them hand picked by the instructors. They vary in video quality right now because we're undergoing a transformation to HiDef but the lessons themselves are all top quality.

Dont beat yourself up too much about not having any formal lessons. I've been playing for 30 years and never had a lesson. Yes, I've learned from watching others and reading books, etc... For some people, this method works, for others, not. If I had to start over, not knowing a thing about guitar and music, I would have been the first in line to take lessons. Im skilled as a player, yes. But my theory lacks. Thats always been the struggle with me. I can sit down and listen to any tune and play it, but for the life of me, couldnt tell you what key its in. LOL But I do say, that it is fun to learn theory. Im 38 years old, and my mind is still a sponge. I try to learn something new everyday. Its that attitude that keeps music fun for me and not just work.

I started lessons on here 2 or 3 weeks ago, only reason I signed up on here is I got tired of playing just three songs out of the 200-something on my iPod.
