In the second solo of Master of Puppets, Kirk does this thing where he makes the guitar scream...I don't think it's a pinch harmonic. I think it may be a natural harmonic on like the 3rd fret E string and then he vibrates his whammy bar. I was reading a tab though and it said to perform that note one had to pull the string off the edge of the fretboard and "fret" it against pickup. I don't understand what that means...could somebody please explain that...or if somebody already knows how to get that scream could you tell me what he does to get it? Thanks.

I'm not around my CD player to hear what note you are talking about exactly, but I do know that sometimes Kirk will pull the high "e" string down off of the fretboard at the 12th fret. It makes it sound like the 15th or 17th fret, or something like that. Try that...

what kirk did on the album was actually an accident that they kept , but he pulls the high E string of the fretboard and frets it agianst the pick up and pulls up on it kirk could probably never do it agian but live he just does a pinch harmonic on the 4th fret on the g string
hopefully that helps a little

there's a guy that rules when it comes to 'screaming notes' it's IA, from the swedish group "freak kitchen' you can check out his lessons at http://www.freakguitar.com
He knows the tone of EVERY hamonic on the neck!! And he actually plays solos with them!!

James and Kirk don't play the same thing in the first solo of Master O P.

The piece Kirk playes is higher...don't ask me what kirk playes...i don;'t know.

if there is noone to play that solo with you...just play what james playes (Low). that sound best.

You know I'm trying very hard to find a video to teach me what it is exactly that Kirk is doing. BUT..... The closed thing I have found.... Go to Youtube and look up a song called "Sacrificed sons" by Dream Theater. When John Petrucci (the guitarist) play's his solo you will see him use the W/bar, take the High E string and connect it to the pickup. So I'm thinking if you mix the Dimebag Scream with what John Petrucci is doing in that song......You might get an Idea. Good luck and Let me know if you find out exactly how to pull this off.

I remember reading about that in an old Guitar World. If I recall right, I think he actually broke his D string.
