I am new to the guitar and this site and I have a question about finger fretting. In the beginner chord/ note names lessons with Christopher he uses his pinkie finger on the 5th fret of the 1st string to play "A" but uses his ring finger on the 5th fret of the 2nd string to play "E". Is finger placement on each string a personal decision or what is the general rule of thumb? I would just like to add that I think Christopher is an excellent teacher because he exhibits a lot of patience and understanding while teaching us novices the very simple basics. I have had previous experience with teachers that clearly showed their boredom with teaching basics and that can be intimidating and has made me stop lessons in the past. Sometimes teachers forget their beginnings. Thanks Christopher.
