250-600 will get you a fairly decent guitar from any number of makers out there. Ibanez, ESP, Schecter, BC Rich, Dean, Michael Kelly, Epiphone, Washburn, Jackson...
In my own particular case, the main details I'd be looking for in a "Metal" guitar, is Humbuckers, 24 frets and a Floyd Rose-style Locking Whammy. All of those things can be found in a number of models offered by the makers listed above. You really shouldn't have much trouble at all finding something in the sub-$600 range that will work for you and last for plenty of years. My two main guitars are a Squire that I got for $125 and a Dean 7 string that I picked up for just under $300. A few tweaks here & there and I've been very happy with them for several years now.
There's really no shortage of good, low priced metal guitars out there these days....You shouldn't have to look too far to find something in that range that you mentioned.

Best of luck to ya.
