Hey guys, I just found out that Vai and Ibanez teamed up to design a distortion pedal.

Vai’s signature distortion pedal called the Jemini looks promising.
What are your opinions after watching the video and getting a sample of its tone and versatility?

After reading about it a while back and have played on both the pedals its based on, IMO, you have to be vai to sound like vai.

I would tend to disagree, at least to a point.

People like Dimitar Nalbantov (is that how you spell it?) have used gear very similar to vai's (guitar or pickups, pedals etc), and gotten a similar sound.

In my opinion the gear Vai is using makes a huge impact in the resulting tone.
But he himself said once that the tone ultimately comes from your fingers… how you fret a note, apply vibrato, attack the string, etc.

So, having the same gear is gonna get you close to his tone; but you gotta have the chops as well.

Dimitar Nalbantov is a great player, he has the right gear and is very influenced by Satch and Vai.

I haven’t got a chance to try one of those suckers, but I’m pretty sure they produce a variety of tones.

100% true, the right gear will get you about 20% of the tone, it's technique that makes up the balance.

that vai video is so funny love vai :D he knows exactly how people think of him. and hes not afraid to expose himself. love it. as for the pedal i didnt hear much of a difference between the channels fromm that vid and it sounded pretty much like vai sounds. plus that peddle will make u sound a bit like vai but did u hear all those processed sounds and choruses and delays behind the distortion. to truly sound like vai u need pro tools and 30k or more on custom desgin.
