Dude, you can get some picks for about 50 cents each! Just buy 'em! Panhandle the money if need be.

Use the little plastic thingys that are on breadloaf bags. Wonderbread picks are the best :)

I usually don't use a pick, but for tracking accuracy with synth, I fabricate my own from--credit cards.. Nice and stiff, any size I want, plus a groovy psychodelic hologram..
Also, I would never ever advocate appropriating anything from our favorite guitar shop, but I have noticed that I sometimes forget to give back demo picks.. Oops!
I've used paperclips, and coins smashed with a hammer(for the right thickness) and other office/household utensils.. Maybe I stand in the garage and say, "How about if I try this?" too much.. But nothing works like my finger..

Well, Charlie Hunter said it best: "Picks are for kids."

But I still use a pick when playing guitar.

picks are for kids-if you play bass.
I learned to play guitar without a pick and now that I'm older and wiser and use one I still can't use it without holding it funny and making loud clacking sounds on the strings. I didn't think that learning the wrong way would hook me up with a bad habit for years to come, but it did. The moral of this story is quit whining and go cough up the 50 cents for a good pick. You'll be glad you did.

Usually, guitar players throw their picks in the audience... so work out, grow tall, and try and grab one when it comes close to you... The next question is "who has an idea for free tickets to guitar shows..."

Tell that to Charlie Hunter, Mark Knopfler, Chet Atkins...

Personally, I think it's best to have both pick and fingerstyle under your belt. Diversity is key.

Know what's really embarrassing?
Throwing ten picks out into the audience then at the end of the night noticing they're all still lying on the floor.

I had a friend a while ago who had a dad who went to a lot of concerts...like 4 a week. There was this one he went to where the band threw out EVERYTHING except the amps large enough to kill a person.
