Definitely go for a metronome. It seems like boring and tedious work at first, but it will help you a TON with your timing. Its really easy to fall into a bad habit of not learning to keep correct time or tempo, but a metronome will sort of train your ear/brain/hands to pick up on it fast. You'll sound a lot better if your in correct time too, so thats always a plus.
