I'm getting back into guitar playing again. I've been playing for years on and off but recently got the itch to try some country so I'm re-buying gear again.

anyway this time I'm not investing a lot of money into a guitar - I'm going entry level solid body electric and I've found a great price on a Squier FSR Affinity Detonator Electric Guitar With Kill Switch. Normally a $200 guitar its on sale for $149.

I know I'm not going to be getting a fantastic guitar or anything, but for the price point is the quality at least decent? Is there something else in the $200 area that would be a more quality purchase? I haven't found many reviews for the guitar anywhere and before I jump I'd like to get some input on it.

Thanks for any help

Hi, Welcome to GT... :)

The squire guitars are OK for the price, but I'd suggest spending a few more dollars and going for the standard series over the affinty.

Check one out and see if you notice the difference. I've had a squire standard strat for many years, and it's still nice to play...

Yeah, I love my Squier Standard strat. And actually, I think when I got mine it was about $149.

Actually I'm on vacation here in Pigeon Forge TN (i know, woohoo! ;) ) and they have an Ibanez GRX40 for $189. I think I can get the guy to give me a good deal on a guitar and an amp because we're in the sticks and I think the guy would like to make a good deal. We'll see but I like the way it plays and the price is right in my target range (IE VERY affordable).

I'll post up again if I get somethin - also it seems to be easier to talk the wife into stuff while on vacation. :D

It's not necessarily the brand of the guitar, it's the playability of it. If it feels right for you that what counts. Invest a little in a decent set of pick-ups and you should have a nice guitar. I have high end guitars, however, these low end models are very surprising in there playability.
