The Song is written in Dm, but it constantly switches in and out to G, C, and F.

Why is it written with these Chord progressions, and not with any others? Is there a rule to abide to for when writing a song in key? Why is it Dm, G, C, and F and not like some other random progression of chords?

And in the solo, it starts off in Dm, which makes sense since the Songs in Dm.. But then the solo patterning moves down to Cm, then Am, then starts to fret way up the neck at the 20th fret on the First (Thinnest) E string. WHY IS THIS... HOW can a song be written in Key like this. IS ita Preference of how it SOUNDS or is there some logical explanation to all this?

help mates! Theory is confusing me..
