Les Paul Studio Vs. Sg standard

I am thinking about getting more serious with my guitar playing, and I figured out that I wanna save my money and go for an awesome Gibson, what I have never played an SG standard, but I am going to soon. Please let me know what you think because I need opinions from people who are better than me. If I am going to spend about $1000 I want to know what is better. Btw I play classic rock/ early metal/ and a little blues.
