Just recently the level of unessasery comments on sites like youtube has gone off the scale. Some kid wants to show how he rocks out and he gets called this, that and the other. Some one who has the power to wreck lifes and cowardly hides behind a username is not a guitar player, there just a guitar owner.

What do you guys think about this subject?

There are plenty of these 'idiots' all over the internet! best to ignore them and let them get on with making an ass of themselves, certainly don't take anything that they say seriously or personally.

Yup. Just ignore them and allow them to bask in the oily *crud* of their own ignorance and incompetence. I see it all the time. There's another site where I do some writing and publishing and believe me, I get smacked on all of the time. So what? Who cares? Some people are just really, really small and insignifcant. :)

It's the unfortunate thing about the Internet. You don't have to use your real name, and you don't have to look anyone in the eye, so civility goes out the window.

I work for a newspaper, and a couple of years ago we opened our Web site up to comments. It was one of the worst things we ever did. We had mean and nasty people. We had wild accusations being made against public officials with no evidence to back it up. We had personal attacks on both our writers and other posters. I even had a personal attack made against my two-year-old son after I included him in a restaurant review I wrote. The attitude was anything goes, and at times, it made me not want to go out in my town, knowing these nasty, crazy people were out there. (Of course, I soon realized I had nothing to worry about because these folks were at their computer making nasty comments 24-7 and not out in public. :p )

Thankfully, we've recently started moderating it and removing inappropriate comments and banning repeat offenders. The thing had turned into a cess pool and the only people commenting were the same five or six bitter, hateful people. Now it's a better place, though I still see a comment every now and then that just makes me scratch my head and wish I had as much time on my hands as these folks do.

There are two ways to be good at something:

1) Practice like hell, and actually be 'good' at it
2) Rag on anyone else who tries so as to appear 'better' than them somehow

If you're not prepared for the criticism, don't post. I see youtube vids all the time of kids trying to play material far beyond their capability - why not play something simple well?

Or, you find a place like this where far and away the majority of people are suppotive, and will genuinely try to help you... :)

YOUR SO F'N GAY, LA'GUIT! AND YOU HAVE A GAY NAME TOO! ;)

J/K of course. Yes, it's so common for people to flame others, and I have to admit, I've let myself get caught up in some. Then sanity strikes, and I just ignore them (and to think I used to be a "chat host" for AOL.)

Now, I just try to give praise to those vids I like. Because of a YT vid, I bought a Behringer TO800 tube overdrive pedal, and I have on the way a Peavey amp- the same amp the guy used ('cept I got the Envoy, not the Bandit.)

From another YT poster, I got a 60 pg. tabbed version of "Clap"- a tune I've been working on for a million years. Anyone want a copy, PM me.

Now that I've learned to ignore the flamers/haters, I've actually made "friends " with some YTubers.

On a different note, if you want to see something I personally think is hysterical, search in YT a poster by the name of St. Sanders- he posts stuff like "Santana Shreds, Clapton shreds," etc. Then send the link to a friend to check out the "amazing" shredding.

Yes, things are certainly strange online. That's why I don't allow my daughter to publish anything public online in her facebook page. But there's upsides- like this site- I LOVE THIS SITE and its members. Everyone is so helpful and friendly.

We've had a few bragging flamers in here, over the years too.

Seems like the fastest way to shut em up is just be really friendly and ask em to post an example of their own playing so they can show us all how it's supposed to be done.

Suddenly ya never hear from em again.

Only thing I have to brag about as far as playing, is, it's been 38 years, and I think I've played something truly original maybe 3 times in all that time. If ya ever want to shut me up, just send me a sample of my own playing!
