....pretty straight forward. 6 lines = 6 strings; the number is the fret you play.

----------------5 (5th fret bottom string; the one that breaks all the time)
--------------4--
-----------3----- (3rd fret bottom-mid string; the one I can never mute right)
--------2--------
-----1-----------
--0-------------- (open top string; the fat one)

Try Google, it knows everything.

I haven't broken a string for over 10 years.. I'm not sure what I do differently now but I certainly am bending just as much, if not more.. I seem to remember that being the main culprit all those years ago. I remember it used to be very irritating to have only bought a new set of strings within a week of breaking the next one.. but these days.. I never (touch wood) break strings..

Ya, my string only breaks if I haven't changed it in a looooong time. I can go for 1-2 months with the same strings just because I'm too lazy to change them lol. That, and the fact that every time I think of changing the strings, it makes me want to play the guitar....and I can't play without strings so I end up getting side-tracked.

I only ever break the bottom 2 strings now... I expect them to be able to take the abuse, and over do it... :o

Still a drag on a guitar with a floyd...

Yeh I tend to change strings every 1 to 2 weeks, if I can afford it and have the time to get to the local music store of course. My strings get very dirty, very quickly because I play at least 1 hour every day.. and I always forget to wash my hands before playing. The only exception is my acoustic which I prefer to have a duller sound than a very bright, brand new strings sound. I might change my acoustic strings every 6 to 12 months.
