For years, I've been using stands that support the body directly, and just cradle the neck in a kind of stirrup with a strap across it to keep the guitar from falling out. I've had far too many close calls with these things because thay can be tipped over too easily.

My next stand will be the kind that cups the headstock, like a wall hanger, and just provides a pad for the body to lean back against. I used a buddy's stand like this last week, and I can say it's a much more stable design.
