The big sign on the front page with flashing arrows says, "24 Free Guitar Lessons". And on the button you clicked to register it says, "Membership is free". That does not mean that all the lessons are going to be free.

cough..whiner..cough....
Sure, go ahead and buy a $40 book and see if there's 3,500 video lessons in it with video, MP3's, full explanations, tab, score and email help with a jam section to practice to and a free forum to ask questions.

God...$10 a month and these guys still complain.
I spend more than that on tips for the pizza guy.

No offense intended, but I'm pretty sure Alex5554 is around 12 years old and doesn't have a Visa card. Should probably cut him some slack.

I'm pretty sure Guitar Tricks accepts both cheques and money orders.
And to be fair, there are 24 free lessons which is probably worth a lot more if you took the lessons privately.

The membership to the site is free giving you full access to the forum area.
The 3500 video lessons cost a bundle to place online and we have to charge for them.

Let's face it. Even so, we're still the least expensive pay site on the internet and have the most to offer.
If we didn't charge something to pay the instructors and invest in improvements to the site, this place would have folded a long time ago.
We were completely free for over 7 years and the main reason we had to start charging was so that, #1... we could pay our instructors a small compensation for all the years that they'd paid out of their own pockets to make this site work. And second, so that we could offer HD videos and hire people to do things like transcripts of the tabs. As well as work on improvement in the future to add such things as iPhone access, large quantities of Jam tunes in the Jam area.

Guys that come on after two posts and jump to conclusions, automatically chastising the site base on a quick perusal of the site need to take a couple of weeks and get to know the place before coming to such quick conclusions.

Kevin you tell them!
I know I'm new and haven't fully signed up so I can asess all the lessons. (I haven't the finaces at the mo. But as soon as I do...) a place like this takes a lot of time and a lot of effort.
People should be paid for their effort. It's a full time job isn't it.
We know not the minute or the hour. We should live each lipgloss as if it's our last. (Marian Keys. The Nicest Thing That Ever Happened to Me)

Glad to get some positive reinforcement from somebody :)

Seriously dude.. I worked my butt off for this site going all the way back to 2001 and even before that.
I uploaded free lessons and tricks as well as recorded sometimes full multitrack examples to compliment the lessons. Not to mention spending days and even weeks manually typing out tabs and stuff.

One of the major advantages to finally getting some compensation for these lessons is that we can invest our profits into improving the site.

Personally, I've upgraded from a Mac G3 Beige running Cubase 5.1 VST to a brand new Mac Core 8 running Cubase 4.0 with a ton of vst instruments.
Not to mention new AKG 701ES headphones, a Yamaha DD5 drum kit, a new printer etc....

The end result is I can use all this technology to provide upgraded backup tunes for students to practice to. Not only that, but hopefully inspire a bunch of new musicians to stretch their limits.

Ten bucks a month is small change these days...and more than well worth it for the content on the site.
