the uk government is tryin to massivly cut the budget bein spent on physics in the uk. i would apreciate it if you could all sign this petition.http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Physics-Funding/ so there is money to be spent on research and we dont lag behind the rest of the world

it will also mean there will be more money available and places for me to work in.

the following was sent by my university

You have probably heard that the Science and Technology Research Council
(STFC) has had a funding cut. You can learn more at, for
example, http://tinyurl.com/2pxb6n and find lots more detailed press
coverage
via http://www.hep.ucl.ac.uk/~markl/pp/index.shtml#Press_Coverage.

This was an unwanted Christmas present for all physics departments,
including
Manchester. While it may not affect you while you are here, it will impact
future generations of undergraduates. Those of you planning
research careers in astronomy, nuclear or particle physics have a direct
interest in getting these cuts reversed as soon as possible.

So please sign the Downing Street petition against the decision
(it's at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Physics-Funding/ ) and encourage as
many as possible of your friends and family as well. Already over
12,000 people
have signed including Stephen Hawking, Peter Higgs and of course many staff
from this department.
