I'm wondering if anyone has tips on how to improve your memory. It seems to take me a long time to get a song down, especially the lead parts. I've been playing a long time so that means I must be getting old !

Thanks,

Thats interesting, I don't know that I have ever really thought about trying to remember a song. I mean generally by the time I figure it out I know how it goes pretty well.

I don't know how you play and if you have been playing a long time you have been playing a lot longer than me, so I don't want to be presumptive, but try hearing the song in your head as your playing. Thats generally what I do I think. Then you just play what you hear rather than trying to "remember" fingerings or anything. I'm pretty sure this is what I do. But I have never really paid attention.

If I don't play something for a long time I tend to forget it. If you think it is actually a problem with your memory you could try to play those memory games or take vitamin supplements or whatever. Maybe Zinc?

I guess it kinda depends on what you mean by 'a long time'.
Ya never know, you might be taking the average amount of time compared to others.

With learning leads etc.. I usually just let it come in it's own time.
It's like, you learn the lead as best you can, then wait and keep coming back to it. After awhile, your subconscious takes over and you don't have to think about it that much anymore. Kinda like learning to drive a car.

About the only thing I can suggest is to try and use your memory as much as possible. The more you use it, the easier it gets.
