okay so i am a noob ive beign playing for just over a month i have a marshamp amp 15w i think, so in the past week ive beign jamming on it and whenever i press the distortion button it screams with a high pitch tone and doesent stop until i turn the distortion off. it scares the living sheet outa me. also sometimes whilst im playing i can hear my amp pop.

is this just what all amp's do?

is there something that can stop it?

am i hearing things?

is my amp broken?

is marshall really that bad?

thanks in advance

it could be feedback, what does ur amp do with ur guitar plugged in distortion on and the volume knob on the guitar turned right down? if there is no squeel its likely to be feedback which u can prevent by turning ur guitar away from the amp or puttin ur hand on the strings.

if it is feedback then yes all amps do it

youre probably not hearing things

youre amp is probably not broken, but u could allways take it back to where u bought it and ask them to have a look

i have a 15 watt marshall i like it alot and i think its a good amp, iv never had a problem with mine however they are the cheap marshalls, the expensive ones are brilliant amps
humans aren't imortal
but rock and roll will never die

amp popping is normal, it's picking up interference from other stuff using the same line. (house appliances, light switches, etc..)

If the popping is annoying try turning down the reverb on your amp, usually an amp with a spring reverb built in pops loudly and it can be loud enough to scare ya. The reverb just tends to make it worse.

As far as the screams, like Mark said it could be normal. Most likely you have your gain set way too high. Most amps with distortion have 2 channels. A clean and a distorted one. Note that both likely have their own volume control and GAIN knob. Turn that gain down and the screaming should stop.

Hope that helps man. :)
