My take for punk soloing is rod-rodded Chuck Berry riffs...It even helps to be in the wrong position, or out of tune..Perhaps not out of tune, the power chords wouldn't sound good..Micro-bends, scratches and scrapes, dry signal, and certainly no Van Halenisms..It takes skill to play with attitude, but you can get by with less skill and more attitude.. Most try to over-play, but with punk, less is best.. Most punkers don't get past I, III, V stuff, and your forget about 7th, 9th, 13th..But flatted 5th chords are so wrong they are cool. Also try duct-taping two, three, or all your fingers together.. That should cure over-playing..Scales? You don't need no stinking scales..Don't think about fretboard equations..Break the rules, brave new musical landscapes await...
