floyd rose

Ok, someone wanna explain that guitar to me, cuz it looks so different. Bridge, nut, whammy bar, and all this other ****.

Well a floyd rose is not a guitar, it's a bridge system.

A floyd rose is a floating bridge, meaning that the bridge is not fixed on the body of the guitar.

The bridge "floats" between two opposite tensions. The strings pulls to one side and the springs to the opposite side. Both must have the correct tension for the bridge to float correctly. If you see a floyd rose or other floating bridge sick inside the body of a guitar, that means the tension of the springs is too high. If the bridge sticks out of the body, then it's the string tension that is high.

The wammy bar is a lever that helps you to move the bridge. This makes for interesting pitch changes as you are changing the tension of the strings by pulling or pushing on the bar.

Most floating bridge will come with locking nut on the headstock. Since you are playing with the string tension, locking the strings in place will insure the guitar doesn't go out of tune.

It's a tricky beast :)

I saw a vid of this heavy metal dude, and he was using a floyd rose, he was doing a tut and he said "blablabla also drop d blablabla" and then he like pulled a lever or summin on the bridge and his guitar went to drop d?

probably not permanently, but ya. If he pulls the whammy bar, the strings get looser, and it drops the tuning. That's what Benoit was saying.

Ah, he probably had a 'D-TUNA' fitted to his guitar - something Mr Van Halen came up with. Check it out here.

Well Benoit, how quickly times change. Us old school Floyd users remember having to use allen wrenches and the whole lot to change and lock down strings. Floyd has been busy since then and makes his own Guitars these days. Guitars without tuning machines, even more so.........
Floyd Rose also makes their own Pick-ups and guitar strings as well. Special strings that are already sized to fit their new systems. Check them out....

This the first time I see those guitars. I guess you don't need locking nuts if you don't even have tuning pegs at all :)

So I guess I was wrong and Floyd Rose is now more of a complete line of products.... I feel old....

Right, I remember him mentioning that what it being called. Does it only work on floyd roses, or floating bridges. And is my bridge a floating bridge? I'm pretty sure it is. I mean it doesn't touch the guitars body, but it just kind of floats up a bit from the body of the guitar. I'm assuming that's a floating bridge right?

It only fits Floyd and floyd-licensed trems....

Ok. Can you buy the floyd roses assembled with the "D-TUNA"?

Ok, I looked you can't. Ok, so on the floyd rose I want, it's good, I mean I think it is. I should prolly give you guys the link so you can help me decide(http://www.floydrose.com/redmodelfive.html). Where are the tuners for the floyd rose guitar? Do they just not come with tuners and I have to buy em, or are they hidden somewhere.

That guitar you linked to uses the speed loader system, so he bullet ends on the strings fit exactly, and the strings are cut to length. You just use the fine tuners in the bridge to get it spot on.

I've no idea what this setup is like... let us know... :)

Yes. The site shows all of your questions and also gives the option of a Fixed Bridge system. It looks like an awesome system altogether. Besides, Floyd Rose has a great reputation....... I think it's a winner and want to try one myself (the Fixed system for my taste).....
