$250?

Haunt the pawnshops in your area, and keep checking the used gear sections of any music stores you can get to. Try before you buy. eBay may have something interesting, but tube amps are heavy, so shipping costs are going to eat a big chunk of your budget, unless you live close enough to pick it up yourself.

Good luck.

As LATS says, or have you considered an Epiphone valve junior 5W or a Fender Champ 600 5W, both of these retail at under £125 / $250 us

pawn shops are going to be your best bet... unless you check out ebay and try to get a good deal on something... but as a good general practice it's never good to buy something you can't try...... especially amps and guitars since they're such high price investments.

maybe check out your local guitarcenter and look at some of vox's valvetronix modeling amps... there technology is coming pretty darn close to getting good all around tube tone and response... they have two kinds now too.... one for hjigh gain tube modeling and classic brit and us tube modelling. be worht a shot

I just faced a similar problem, except my budget was 300. I searched on Ebay for months, tried out the Vox Valvetronix, and finally settled on a marshall avt or valvestate II. I ended up buying a vs265, which is a valvestate II with stereo 65w, which I really like. Comes with a preamp tube, and if you put in some good celestion, it almost sounds like a real tube amp.

Those avts, off of ebay you could get a 50w one for about 250.
