Slide help please

OK so i just got my first guitar . Never played before and i signed up for guitar tricks. I can't seem to do a slide across frets without it sounding really bad....
Am i just moving my hand to slow??
Any tips?

thanks for the link it helped some my friend pointed out to me what my problem was my finger would just lift off the string enough to make that sound i was making
