this is kinda of though but esay question.

if you play and e5 chord by plaing open e on the 6th string and b on the 5 string. then played an A5 the same way then a d5 the same way would a g5 be open g on the 3 string and a d on the second? and does a b5 go to the open b on the second string and f# on the first?

thanks even though it doesnt make much sense.
They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.

Just a minor correction to your wording. What you have there are not barre chords, those are actually called “Power Chords“, which really are intervals of 5th.
You are playing the Root on an open string and fretting the 5th.
So, yeah. You are right on your assumption regarding the G5 and B5 power chords.
Now lets put those chords in tabs so they become easy to read.

-----E5------A5-------D5-----G5------B5
e--------------------------------------2--------
B------------------------------3-------0--------
G----------------------2-------0----------------
D-------------2--------0------------------------
A----2--------0---------------------------------
E----0------------------------------------------

Hope that helps.

thanks i was playing around with with an open position pentatonic last night and i was playing the open positions 5 chords and couldnt find the g5.

another question along this line is if i was to playing a barre/power chord (not sure what its called on this one.) on the 4th string would i play it like this as i moved up the neck? since the 2nd string is tuned to a 4th (?) of the 3rd string?

e---3--------
B---5--------
G---4--------
D---2--------
A------------
E------------

Hehe.. my friend Dave told me about his 5 string bass. He likes to tune the B-string to a C instead so that it's still a 4th away from the G string.. :)

I would call it an Em barre chord. The cool thing is that you can use it as a Moveable shape, which allows you to play any minor chord.
As long as you keep that shape, the intervallic pattern remains the same. [ P1, P5, P8, *m10 ]
*m10 is just a m3 played one octave higher, you can also call it flat 10 ( b10 ) if you wish.

…….......Em…….....Fm…….....Gm……....Intervals
e--------3--------4--------6--------m10------
B--------5--------6--------8--------P8--------
G--------4--------5--------7--------P5--------
D--------2--------3--------5--------P1--------
A----------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------
