Hey guys, so here's the story :)

After having a guitar for ages,i finally decided to start actually using it a month ago and after trying a couple of different songs i chose to try and learn Here Without You by 3 Doors Down.

I've pretty much just practiced the picking parts and got it down somewhat, till a point i can reasonably sing and play the rest of the song but I can't for the life of me figure out the strum pattern for that last bit.

I've tried slowing the song down and listening to it , looked up all the videos i could find on youtube but i still have no clue how to strum it.

Now i know it doesn't have to be perfect, but I can't seem to get a remotely decent sounding pattern.

Please bear in mind I'm a complete beginner :)

ive never heard that song butyou might try listening to the drums. start by strumming only when the base kicks or when he hits the hihat. then start filling in the rest till you have some thing that sounds ok.
They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.

Keep in mind the strum pattern may change and probably does. The same strum pattern usually is not played throughout the entire song. The key can change as well, but you should be able to detect when it changes. Strum patterns are tricking at times. It may consist of 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 beats all mixed up in one measure and change the next measure. Try concentrating on the rythme only and chords. Play everything as 1/4 beats and block out the lead and riffs until you have have the rythme down. Then listen for the up strokes, down strokes, the pauses, and how many are played or not played in your 1/4 beat measure. Then try adding them to you playing. Don't try singing along until you have it down. You will loose you concentration and timing, because the vocal does not hit on each strum.

It will take time, but I'm sure you will get it.
