I am looking for a distortion pedal that can do amost anything, for a cheap price. I've heard that the Boss Ds-1 is really popular now because of the price and quality. Is there anyone who has personally used it that could help me decide if I want it or not.

The music that I play ranges from metal to blues to classic rock.

i have one and it is a good pedal. with a les paul you can go from a good classic crunch and grind to a biting growling attack. its just a matter of mixing your amp/guitar settings to the pedal. its not too good on the blues but i might not have the right mix yet.

i dont know if this happens on all of them but if i try to use it with my fender strat(60's special reverse s/s/s) i get a horrible whine and feedback like you wouldnt believe. i have traced the problem either to the pick ups (stock but they dont do it with my other pedals.) or the pedal its self.
They say the END is near, but I'm Tired of waiting.

Nice pedal alright - it does exactly what it says on the tin. As with all Boss pedals though you get the best result combining it with other gear. Steve Vai used to have one on front of his Eventide Harmonizer and Joe Satriani also used one up until Engines of Creation.

I've got a keeley modded DS-1. Nice pedal. I prefer my tubescreamer though - might be worth a look... ;)
