As far as muscle memory, strength and stamina for chords is concerned.. it's just practise and more practise I'm afraid. You could try doing simple chord progressions and songs you like and just keep practising those chords.. then when you are comfortable with those, find some new chords to learn in other songs.

You could also learn some chord theory and practise the chords as you learn the theory and kill two birds with one stone..

For example:
I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, viiº

If C Major is the root (I) then the chords go like this:
CMaj, Dmin, Emin, FMaj, GMaj, Amin, Bdim

I forget the exact name for that chordal progression.. but it's all based around the same intervals and structure that the Major scales are based on... The point is, you can learn some theory and practise chords, and learn your fretboard all at the same time.
