I'm new here, couple weeks. I have posted before, but only in the premium instructors' forum.
I'm working my way through the beginner's basic lessons. I'm not a beginner, probably somewhere in intermediate range, but I'm self taught, so I missed some of the basic stuff. Started playing around 1965. I'm not proud, I don't mind starting over to reinforce the basic stuff. I read music to the 5th fret and can take a book to learn a composition, but I wish to be better. I studied music theory in high school and college, mostly Bach. Final exam in college they gave us like a Mozart composition to be analyzed. Aced exams in 1970. 40 years later, mostly forgotten knowledge. Bach was doing jazz chords in his era.
I just did somebody's guitar setup lesson here. My intonation on my electric is off, every string at 12th fret. I'm not sure my action is correct, also.
I'll backtrack. I live in NY State. While visiting my brother this summer out near Tacoma, WA , he got on my case, because I procrastinate too much, and we went to Music Center there and I bought a new guitar. The model I purchased was hanging, who knows how long, and probably played by a few folk. When I did finally select it for purchase, another guy wanted to play it one last time as it was on his wish list. So, my guitar needs new strings and most likely a basic noobie setup by a guitar tech pro as it most likely has been roughly handled. I shipped it home Federal Express ground.
What I am looking for is a how-to procedure, specific to this model guitar, how to set it up properly. Should I approach Gibson? Probably I should do so. Do you guys have other sources as to how to do it myself? Guess I'm looking for feedback just to see what folks reccomend. I did look at the book suggested, this link:
