Ok I've been analysing those chords.. that Gmaj9#11.. is that basically a GMaj triad combined with a F#m triad?
The complex chords shouldn't have to throw you. The Gmaj9#11 is essentially just an extention of the 4th chord in the key of D. Just treat it as a G in the key of D. The F#m11/E is still basically just part of the E dorian scale and the Em7 chord in general, just with emphasis on different notes. If you just play the E dorian over it, you'll sound just fine :)
