Hey everyone, im learning the famous Satch song surfing with the alien, and im stuck on the first solo i.e:

T P T P T P T P T P T P T P T P T P
E--22--21--22--21--22--21--22--21--22--21--22--21--22--21--22--19--22--|--19--
B----------------------------------------------------------------------|------
G----------------------------------------------------------------------|------
D----------------------------------------------------------------------|------
A----------------------------------------------------------------------|------
E----------------------------------------------------------------------|------

now how exactly do I tap the 22nd fret with my right hand? its very awkward whilst alternate picking simultaneously.

any help much appreciated

When you tap, you don't pick any notes, you use hammerons/pull offs to sound the notes that your tapping finger doesn't hit.

For instance:

|---12h13t15--12h13t15p13p12---| x3

You would pick the 12, then hammeron the 13, tap the 15, then pulloff the 15 so the 12 rings again, then after you hammeron and tap to the last 15, you pulloff to 13 then 12. You may pick right before or right after a tapping lick, but not during. If thats the case, try using your middle finger while you pick stays in its place, ready to hit the string when needed again.

Try this 14 lesson tutorial by Kevin Taylor all about tapping.. The tutorial summary says... "In this tutorial I'll be going through all the techniques involved in two-handed tapping on the guitar.... right from the very basics all the way up to using all the fingers of both hands, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides and anything else you can think of. Due to the amount of lessons, I've divided it in multiple tutorials. Each part will focus on different tapping techniques."

The T stands for Tap, and the P stands for Pull-off. Its not tap pick.
