soloing over progression????

i'm confused here is the senerio if i'm playing a G C D chord progression what would be the root G? or say just a D G progression what key would i choose for my scale thanks fro the help....

Yeah, G would be the root. Use a G major scale or a E minor pentatonic scale. Either of those should work fine.

Well, all of those chords in the progression are in the key of G major. So... you can use a G major scale OR the relative minor, which would be E. E minor has the same notes in the scale as G major, so it is considered the relative minor of G major. There are certaintly other scales or modes to use, but in this case where the chords are all strictly major, it would be best to just stick with G major or E minor (pentatonic, if you wish)

G, C, D is a I, IV, V progression, the most common chord progression used in rock music. (I) refers to the root chord G so a scale of G major will hit all the notes in that key. (IV) is the sub dominant chord and (V) is the dominant which leads back to the root (I)

If you want to use the Em scale over the progression that will work because Em is the minor sixth of the key of G. It utilizes the same notes as a G Major scale.
