my friend was/is touring/living with a band 30 seconds to mars.. dont kno if yall kno who they are, but anyways she got the lead singer / rhythm / songwriter Jared to sign the back of my guitar and I was wondering if the permanent marker will come off. if it will, what do i do to keep it on?

Never use the guitar...

Ummmm, I dunno. Obviously with time it will come off at some point, so if you wanna use it then you need to do something. I have no idea what, but my mind is thinking something like the clear adhesive stuff they put on cell phone screens and stuff when they're new. I dunno, just a thought.

Yes, the permanent marker will come off, in fact you could rub it off (or at least smudge it badly) with your finger right now if you tried.

If it were my guitar I'd have another clear coat of lacquer applied to the body & of course over the signature to protect it for life. Probably two or three coats actually. That way if you decide to keep using it you will be able to buff out the inevitable scratches that will come over time, without buffing down to the actual sig.

It would probably cost a little but have you thought about actually carving the signature into the guitar and then refinish the carving part, i bet that would look cool as hell and it would definately be there for life.

To add more clearcoat though, you need to sand the surface to rough it up.

You could put some clear packing tape over it, but if you peel it off or it starts to flair, the marker might come off.
