What do you guys think about the new rap/metal fusion that's going on? Personally I don't mind most of it, but then there's Kid Rock who I think isn't talented in either field which makes his music utterly detestable to listen to. Comments anyone?

Personally I find it upsetting.
Actually, I think it's all just an effort to stick out of the crowd. The need to be different. After all that's what gets bands signed, right? Some do the fusion thing okay, but most just make me laugh. I think in part good vocalists are hard to find but any idiot can get up and recite a bunch of words into a mic. Just my 2¢

i think that it is contemptible how rock or alternative rock has been tainted with rap/hip hop. even the radio stations in my city have completely forgotten what rock is supposed to be. people like fat boy slim, moby, limp bizkit, etc. are ruining today's music scene with garbage they call rock. i feel sick.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

I hate this new rap-metal stuff. It's pure crap. Just a bunch of trendy little Backstreet Boys banging on 7-string guitars (with no skill) pretending to be rebels.

yo, i'm just waiting for a band who can do both effectively. it seems like good rappers who try to mix the two, skillz deterierate or can't do the both as good as they can do the one thing. Kid Rock is a raw ass rapper without the band but with them he gets kinda simple and so does the music.

I've been complaining incessantly about this crap since it started getting popular about 3 years ago. It was all over school... If you weren't down with it you were weird. But, if you think about a lot of pop music for say, the past decade and a half, it's all been about image and simplicity, which I directly attribute to MTV, the bastards...

I think the rap influence is fine, but we need to see more acts doing it well. We all know that really good music rarely makes mainstream, and if it does MTV usually kills it by overplaying them and giving atleast one person in the band a huge ego to boot.

If you don't beleive me, then check out Incubus, the rap influence is there (DJ, singer ocasionally raps... sorta), but for the most part everyone seems more interested in writing a good song than fitting in. Everyone in the band is really good (technically), but also very versital. I have three of their albums and all three are destinctive, and intersting to listen to. Best of all, they are alot better on stage than on tape.

yo, that's what i'm saying, his mellower stuff is really good. kinda like a cross between the eagles/lynard skynard band and some other stuff. i'd have more respect for his music if it stayed like that. and he's an excellent singer. the songs when he sings in 'em are way better than his rap crap. but that's not the stuff they wanna push.

And that's the bottomline............

I was watching the "sanitarium" tour coverage on MTV (eMpTytV), I could've sworn Kid Rock was lip syncing (sp?). Also, in between sets, they played some "unplugged" crap that has to be one of the most pathetic excuses for a song I've ever heard. It was called "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" I beliveve, Kid Rock and some guy calling himself "Uncle Cracker" "sung" it. It sounded like something you would hear on sesame street (pre-schooler's children's show on PBS). The funniest thing was how Kid Rock seemed to take it seriously. What a joke.
Has anyone else's ears been assaulted by this country-rap-clildren's music-redneck hybrid yet?

I was at the LA show and the only things I was interested in were Kid's cage dancers, the hot flashers inbetween acts, and of course Metallica. Everything else was a waste of time and the only things I got out of it were a great first Metallica show and a sunburn.

How did you tolerate the other bands at that show (by "other bands", I mean the bands other than Metallica)? I would've been kicked out for throwing a half-full water bottle at Korn and Kid Rock had I been there.

rap-metal IS just people trying to stick out when all they're doing is fitting in, there are so many rap/metal bands now you can't possibly BE different. Incubus is incredible, I saw them w/ 311 last month and I was blown away. My little brother used to be this cool alternative guy and now he's a hardcore rap addict into gay ass kid rock limp-bizkit, dre, and all that other ****. I can't stand it, when everything was grunge in the early 90's, I was at total peace with the world, but now the fad has changed and I am still alternative and very lonely, I mean I still have a few alternative freinds, but most people I knew who were cool can't stand to be around anymore. Wow that felt good to get off my chest.

I just dug out Soundgarden's Superunknown yesterday, and DAMN does it sound good. I really miss alot of the stuff from the time, but time moves on, and so we have to live with it.

I caught Incubus w/ Primus and Buckethead, talk about a show... It was even worth the near-cavity search experience @ the canadian border, not quite worth the aggrivation of my little brother jumping out of the van in the middle of Montreal traffic though.

Some of the bands are original and good, others are horrible like Kidrock and Bizlimpkit.

are you serious? i play guitar, write & record rap songs, and produce rap tracks, and the recording part is the hardest thing to do well... if you dont know anything about it, i could understand someone saying that, but honestly, there are so many elements of rapping/singing, like delivery, flow, presence, and emotion that make it much tougher to do than any other part of music
