I'd like to make some songs, but I only have an electric and acoustic guitar.
I'd like to record =onto the PC. Then make up drum beats etc to mix over the live played guitar sounds.
Any ideas on software?

Try downloading Reaper, it's free and is midi compliant plus you can use VSTi's (virtual instruments) such as drums and synths. There are loads of free VST's on the web plus you can buy very powerfull instruments now such as Symphonic Orchestra (full orchestra) and Percussive Adventures (for drums). It will also allow you to record, edit, mix and burn to cd.
