The worst lead ever is from "Canyons of Your Mind" Bonzo Dog Band.

The lead is so horrible, it's amazing. You really have to have talent to play that badly. :D

Ummmm... Basically any solo from any Nirvana song. Wicked lame. "Come as you are" He just plays the vocal part and doesn't even change it at all. Booooooooo...

Anything by Cannibal Corpse solos are among the worst: play a few runs up the fretboard in no key at all and duff half the notes then wobble the whammy bar in between - irritating!

Any band that plays a short lick over the rythm and calls it a solo is lame (basically, most rock bands since 1993). There are too many for me to mention but "With Arms Wide Open" from Creed will be my best example. I remember reading Tremonti on solos... "I want things as thick as possible, and taking solos sometimes thins things out" (this isn't verbatim but I'm quoting that from the November 1999 Guitar-World magazine). To me that sounds like a subtle way of saying "I am not good enough to play them." Solo playing is one of those things where its really best to learn it from somebody who knows what they're doing, and most of the guitarists who play lame solos tend to be self-taught from what I've observed (Mark Tremonti once again is my best example)

As far as the best solo, I vote for Pantera's "Psycho Holiday". Or maybe James Labrie's "Crucify".

nirivana solos are lame my first solo ever was smells like teen spirit and thats all volcals does anybody herre listin 2 the outlaws the are amazing on guitar phycdelic freakout is good :cool:

I guess that I never really listened to Cobain as a Lead Guitarist.
What I heard was a Genius in Harmonic Substitution who mastered the art of co-mingling some dissonance with melodic phrases. Through a combination of substituting harmony between his Vocals and guitar tonality is what created his unique sound. His gift with Accenting and chordal placement gave life to the lyrics with creative songwriting that changed an era (even if using common type progressions that others had used many times before).
Many will create music through variations with these progressions, but few will change it,............. Overnight.

Why... tisk tisk for not knowing David Gilmour, who so convienantly happens to be the guitarist for Pink Floyd. I'll let the ignorance of Derek Trucks slide (HA! no pun intended :D ) but study up and hopefully you'll come to agree with me some day.
