Any Nirvana song really. Then theres the coveted smoke on the water. Just go thru your itunes playlist or whatever and find songs you like and that sound easy enough to learn. Then just look up the tabs. Not something you want to get in a habit of because in the long run, learning by ear is the way to go, but its a start. I found just doing tabs when I started out was great, but don't wait very long before learning your scales, or better yet... the dreaded memorization of notes on the fretboard!!! *young children weep in terror*

Nirvana is a good choice, but most of their songs are tuned down a half step as I recall. Green Day might be an idea - 'When I come Around' and 'American Idiot' are very easy.

Depends what you want. I think you can learn anything if you put the time and effort in. I took on 'Eugene's Trick Bag' a long time before I had the skill to play it - I just really wanted to learn it - and I did. I could play it perfect, but a bit slow. It's now some years later and I've developed the motor skills to do it at full speed...

Anyway - what song do you really wnt to be able to play, regardless of difficulty? It's good to have a challenge, and maybe to run that in tandem with something easy, so you get results quickly from say a Green Day tune, but then the satisfaction of a job well done by doing something more difficult...

Check out these links

The second one may be full of dead links due to the RIAA.

I agree with Weslaba.

But here are some of my personal favorites.

http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=9581 - Pretty Women
They look pretty hard at first but once you get there freakin awesome.

Also Smoke on The Water + Mission Impossible Theme Song.....

I was wanting to do the same.... I just recently been going to sit down lessons (about a month now) and he has me learning searies 1, 2, and 3 barr chords. Once I started getting those down a bit I found I was playing some cool rock songs I couldent before learning the barr chords. I recomend trying to get a good feel of them and the songs will come easy. I know I tried to play "Brain Stew" by Green day months ago and was horrible at it (I know to most it is an easy song).... I got the barr chords down enough now I can rip the crap out of that song.... Ahhhh the power of rock.... :)
A man isen't measured by how far he has traveld in life, but how he made the jurney. ;)
