http://www.cyberfret.com/reading/internet-tab/index.htm

or go get a guitar tab magazine down at your local newstand....and they usually have a page dedicated to reading/understanding tabs..
but i think that link'll do the trick

good luck

Hey whats up I am pretty new to guitar but I have got a hold of tabs
you have 6 lines
-------
-------
-------
-------
-------
-------
each represents a string
the bottom line represents the lowest string (E)
the top string represents the highest

The numbers on each line represent which fret you need to use on which string

------2---
----3-----
---------2
----------
----------
----------

the spacing provides the beat for the song
for lots of good tabs go to http://www.guitartab.cc/home.php

Is it just me or is it much easier(quicker) to read music than tabs? Perhaps its just getting used to seeing the numbers.
Well I've never prayed,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.
