Building a guitar at the moment and I need a good, clear, very glossy water-based finish.

Apart from the finishes at StewMac and the old KTM-9, has anyone ever used anything else they'd care to recommend?

Nope, you really can't beat Stew-Mac. I'd go with a jump off a cliff if they told me my guit-fiddle would play better :)

+1 for StewMac.

Varathane makes a good product called Diamond Cote, but I don't know if I'd use it on a guitar. It is a hard, durable finish, but it makes wood look like plastic. I think it would make a lovely piece of figured maple look like cheap photoflame.
