Unfourtanantly, we'de had this discusion recently ("speed for talent" post)... Satch is an aquired taste, and most poeple who like him are guitarist, not because him music is great, but that his technique is impressive, so you can't really argue...
Anyway, there's is no answer to what is GOOD music...

I couldn't disagree more. I like him as a guitarsist and a musician. If there's one thing that Satch does well, it's writing melodies. Yes, he does shred a lot, but it's his little, hum-able melodies that make his songs great. If you need proof of this, check out the Extremist disk.

Do Limp Bikkit have any proper riffs apart from the Mission Impossible one they stole. I always just thought it was noise to back up redcap.

How long would it take me to persuade you that Bach was fantastic, or that Tosca is an amazing opera, or that Radiohead are one of the best bands out there at the moment, or that U2 write great songs, or that Dylan really is a great singer? People have opinions, the only way you can change someone's opinion is by getting them to listen to the music you like, and hope that they get your message. Music is not about searching through everything until you come to "good" music, you can't simply argue your way into music. I don't particularly like Vai for instance, and the only way you could make me like him would be to play one of his songs that really grabs me, you couldn't argue me into it. Why don't you listen to them about Limp Bizkit (not that I'm suggesting you should, the less people who listen to them the better)?

Yeah, Vai is definitely an acquired taste. I can't stand most of his earlier stuff. It's just basically a bunch of 'noises'. ALS is a great album though.
