hey everyone,
I recently installed a pair of EMG's (81/85) into an explorer and i have encountered a small problem. Only one of the pickups seems to be working, which im fairly positive is the 85 in the neck position. When i switch to the other pickup im just not getting any sound. However i just discovered that if i put my distortion on and turn it up loud enough i can faintly hear some sound from the non-working pickup.
I have gone over the wiring a few times and i cant seem to figure out what i did wrong. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this, or do you know what could fix it? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. thanks for your time.

You can check out EMG's website, they have several diagrams that can help you out. They're active, so I assume they would need different wiring than passive pups. Could also be a low 9v.

Maybe a short, or a loose wire, but really there are many things that can go wrong with electronics that I cannot diagnose it without seeing it. What I would do is to go through the whole installation again step-by-step (without actually cutting or soldering anything) and see if you might have soldered a wire to the wrong connector or anything else is out of place (I've done it myself a million times; last time I wired the wrong wires to the switch in my strat-copy so now when the switch is in the neck position the bridge pickup is active... but at least I got a tone control out of it)
