I go with having my arm away from my body (unless I'm way up the top of the neck - then you don't have much choice)...

I guess to visualise, if I held a B Barre chord at the 7th Fret my left forearm would be about square to the neck... don't have a guitar with me so having a bit of a guess, but that's about it...
