I have to disagree about Vista sucking. I bought a new laptop 3 weeks ago. Just about any and all of my 32-bit programs runs like a dream. Now IF you have a Vista laptop running on only 512mb of ram like some stores are selling, then yes. It will run like a 3 legged dog. I upgraded mine to 4 gigs and it is faster than any of my XP machines or laptops. I use it at work now and it runs a homemade telnet program like a charm! Runs Photoshop and even Neuendo without any issues. I even managed to get the Zune mp3 software working on it, well after a few tweaks and patches that is. I would have waited on Vista for at least the first service pack to be released but I couldnt wait that long.......But I do seem to remember how much problems XP had upon initial release as well. And believe me, the Vista beta version is nothing like the new releases!
