Must know chord shapes:
E, A, C.....this is the basis of most Bar Chords. Once you know this you can find all the basic chords up and down the neck

Should know all open chords from A-G Major and Minor.

Once these are down you can start to work on Chord theory and how 7ths, 9ths and so on are made.

At least that's how I'm learning things.

Damn! Ok well try this site. Click on the A-G open major chords and start there. It will give you a fingering diagram (that sounded dirty).

you should try and learn all of the "7" chords. Major, minor, and dominant. And if you're into rock and blues, then you'll want to know some "9" chords as well.

Well, I don't actually know any cowboys but from what I've heard they tend to drive pick up trucks now and generally the only thing they're out chasing are trailer park blondes and a wicked hangover. Oh yeah, and a good fist fight too. :D
