Ska lessons?
I think it's really cool that this site has free access to a bunch of awesome guitar lessons. When I first signed on and looked at all the instructors and their styles, I couldn't find anyone who was teaching reggae or ska. Some of my favorite musicians are Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pepper, and Sublime. I'm not mad or anything, the amount of info on this site is great, but is there anybody here who can point me in the direction of some sites that teach ska or reggae on the internet? thanks

i would actually love to spend some time putting in some ska/reggae stylings on this site. allthought i play everything under the sun, ska has been such a big influence on me. i never really thought about doing lessons on it; theres not too much to teach, but i would love to get something going on up here.

I am having some trouble getting rhythmic clicks down. I just touch the strings on the down note and hold down the strings on the up note, but how do I keep the open strings from sounding on the down note?

hmm, guitar for reggae and ska are sometimes actually easier to learn on acoustic in my opinion- thats just me though.
so heres how it works for ska-
on the downstroke, have you fingers in the right placement for the chord, just have them so they are just barely touching the strings. this will make a kinda "THUNK" sound. so on the upstroke, press down on the chords to get the actual chord sound.
oh, and try not to play actual traditional chords for both of these genres.
instead of a G like this:
- 3
- 3
- 0
- 0
- 2
- 3
play one like this:
- 3
- 3
- 4
- 5
- 5
- 3
see, its the same thing, just in a power chord. when you play it like this, the downbeat "THUNK" wont have any open strings to mess it up.
