ok so i went to the guitar store today and saw a few axes id like to own but hesitant to decide just yet...

my ultimate is a telecaster but then i saw a mexican telecaster sold at a cheaper price...so i was wondering whats the major difference between the american version and the mexican ones...cos if the difference isnt significant i might get the mexican version..my other option is the mexican strat...im wanting the tele cos its supposedly good for bluesy folkish sounds..so yea...help please...

I've got a MIM(made in mexico) Tele, and I love it to bits! The differences between the American made and MIM fenders are usually neglegable. You can always add a few upgrades to the MIM and still be under the MIA price tag.

Word... Mexican Strats are considered inferior simply because they're not made in the US. The reason they're so much cheaper is because in Mexico labor is much much cheaper... and Fender can charge less... Where as in the US they have to charge much more becuase the luthiers that build the guitars are licensed luthiers. Me being a Fender man... I can tell the difference between a US and Mexi right away, but most people can't. I have a US and a Mexican strat and they're oth great axes.

The Tele is a great all around axe... But I've always been partial to the Strat for blues and rock.

i find the tele shape uber sexy...i was at the shop today and there was someone having a muck around with a tele and the sound blew me away (almost to the sexual extent)...therefore i am obsessed with it..ill probably put in some vintage pups sometime in the future to add on to the sexiness...ok im getting ahead of myself

I was having the same conflict when I was looking at strats. The salesman who played a strat as well told me some of the differences between the mexican and the usa is the quality of the parts. The frets on the american are nickel and the ones on the mexican are steel that are coated. There are some other differences in the pickguard and tuners. When I bought my Les Paul I bought the epiphone because there was not enough of a difference to me to pay the extra 2 grand. I slapped a couple of PRS Dragon II Humbuckers in it and now it sounds great! So I would just try and play the American and the Mexican without paying attention to which one you have in your hands and then see if you can tell the difference.

Listen with your ears and hands... not with your eyes and what some salesman tells you.
