Regarding Boss MT-2 and Marshall MG50DFX

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to request if anybody can give me a few setting suggestions for a MARSHALL MG 50 DFX and Boss MT-2 (Metal Zone). Basically I'm looking for something like the Rythm Part of Master Of Puppets (I know its very difficult to achieve that from the gear I have, but anything close would be fine for me...)

Kindly advice a few settings either in combination of the both or seperately for the Marshall 50 DFX amp.

Can I get a decent Metal Rythm tone from the Marshall 50 DFX ? Kindly give me a setting if yes.

You will get a far superior metal tone from the amp than using the pedal (IMO). Try keeping the gain down to an absoulte max of 7 - 6 is better. BElieve ot or not but you will get a lot more clarity and definition thus a far heavier tone from lower gain settings. Depends entirely on your pickups and techniquem but a good tone from my MG100DFX is: bridge humbuckers, gain 6.5, treble, 8, mid 9, presence 6, volume 10, master volume to whatever your ears can take. The same setting off the neck is excellent for shred solos, very thick and creamy with good clarity. Also if you nudge the master volume you can get good controlled feedback.
You can get some pretty good death metal tones from the MT-2 but when it comes to finding a signature tone or something that you would actually think about having on a cd it falls short, to my ears anyway. Lots of guys like them, I have one and used to think it was cool for getting badd ass over saturated tones but now I prefer heavier clearer tones from less gain.

Just to clarify- the mg50 doesn't have a prescence knob.

The mg50 is decent for heavy music-I own one. Make sure you keep the mids up.

My tone-
Bridge humbucker- tone knob on guitar turned to about 8.

Amp (mg50)
Gain 4-5
Treble- 6
Mid-7-8
Bass- 6.5

When I need more gain or a solo boost,I kick on my boss sd-1. I highly reccomend this.

No thoughts on the mt-2, never used one.

Of all of the basic metal pecals out there, the boss sd-1 is actually one of the better ones. Back to basics works well every time! If you have no presence control, then another option besides the sd-1 would be an overdrive pedal. The MG100DFX has the presence control (mine is th eamp not the cab and head combo), that knob definitely makes a big difference, pity it's not on the 50 watt version. They are not a bad amp at all especially for the price.

I think you might have the ds-1 mixed with the sd-1. ds-1 is distortion...sd-1 (which i mentioned) is an overdrive.
